With a targeted open date for late summer 2026, this position provides an exciting opportunity for a motivated turf professional to gain hands-on experience in course grow-in, turf establishment, irrigation management, and the development of agronomic programs at a brand-new private club.

Position Summary

The Second Assistant Superintendent will be a key member of the agronomy team responsible for maintaining exceptional playing conditions and course presentation. Working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and First Assistant Superintendent, this role assists in planning, coordinating, and executing all aspects of turfgrass maintenance operations.

This position will play an active role in the grow-in/maturity process and will help establish the maintenance standards, operational procedures, and agronomic practices that will guide the long-term success of the golf course.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the daily maintenance and conditioning of all playing surfaces including greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and naturalized areas
• Supervise and assist in directing maintenance staff in daily operations and projects
• Support the development and execution of grow-in programs, including mowing schedules, cultural practices, and detail work
• Assist with fertilizer and plant protectant applications while ensuring accurate calibration and safe equipment operation
• Monitor turf health and report any issues related to disease, pests, moisture, or environmental stress
• Participate in irrigation system operation, troubleshooting, and repair
• Assist with course setup and help maintain standards for daily play and Member events
• Maintain compliance with all safety procedures and environmental regulations
• Support other agronomy operations as needed to ensure the success of the golf course maintenance program

Qualifications

• Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field preferred
• Previous golf course maintenance experience required
• Ability to lead, train, and communicate effectively with team members
• Strong attention to detail and a passion for golf course conditioning
