Description
Alex Smith Garden Design, Ltd. is seeking Landscape Designers / Landscape Architects to work in our unique design-build studio environment. Candidates must be organized, creative, and possess strong design and graphic skills, including the ability to prepare illustrative landscape plans, draft construction details, and create mock-up graphics packages. The ideal candidate can juggle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and prioritize shifting workloads and deadlines.
Applicants should be self-motivated, eager to learn, and adaptable to a variety of residential projects across diverse ecoregions and growing zones. The ideal candidate works well collaboratively; is skilled at building strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and team member; and knows how to effectively communicate and delegate work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Create mock-up graphic presentation packages using Photoshop, InDesign, and hand graphics
Prepare hand-drawn illustrative master plans
Prepare plans, including grading, planting, drainage, and construction details
Prepare site plans and supporting documents for permitting
Manage personal workflow and delegate work to design support staff in a timely manner
Assist Landscape Architects / Project Managers with pricing proposals and invoices
Assist with ordering plant material as needed
Design and detail hardscape elements
Help build and maintain graphics and construction detail libraries
Perform occasional office/shop tasks, including receiving plant and garden ornament deliveries
Participate in occasional installation and fieldwork
These are representative duties for this position and are not exhaustive. Additional responsibilities will be assigned as needed.
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture A
Landscape Architect license is a plus, but not required
6-10+ years of relevant professional experience; high-end residential design experience preferred
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, or other 3D visualization software
Working knowledge of Land F/X is a plus
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Strong hand-rendering and drafting skills preferred
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
Knowledge of Southeastern U.S. plant material
Understanding of construction timelines, methods, processes, and detailing
Ability to collaborate effectively and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Willingness to travel across the Southeast occasionally
