Overview:
The Village of Antioch is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator I. This position is responsible for performing entry-level tasks related to the operation, care, and maintenance of the Village of Antioch’s Wastewater Treatment Facility. The position duties include, but are not limited to, operating equipment used in the wastewater facility, including inspections, adjustments, and monitoring of equipment, as well as making necessary adjustments. The Operator performs laboratory, treatment plant, pre-treatment program, and maintenance operations, including collecting samples, taking and recording sample readings. Regular maintenance includes cleaning of the facility, monitoring and managing equipment alarms, and documenting plant operational data. Ability to tolerate working in an environment that may contain dust, noise, fumes, noxious odors, mists, gases, poor ventilation, high humidity, extreme heat and/or cold, and exposure to mechanical parts of equipment, tools, or machinery, electrical shock; falling from high exposed places; explosions and/or toxic or caustic chemicals. The position reports to the Supervisor of Wastewater Operations. Additional responsibilities include snow removal and the ability to work overtime, weekends, and be on call 24/7 on a rotating basis. Requirements
Qualifications:
Minimum of a High School diploma or GED, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire. A minimum of one (1) year of experience in wastewater or a related field is preferred. A state water or wastewater treatment facility operator certification, or “operator in training,” is preferred but not required. Knowledge of the operating practices of a modern wastewater treatment facility, including chemical, physical, and bacteriological processes involved in wastewater treatment, is preferred. Ability to use applicable hand tools and equipment related to the position, lift or move a minimum of 75 lbs. required. Technical training in the areas of chemistry, biology, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
