Position Overview The Golf Course Superintendent manages all aspects of golf course and grounds maintenance to ensure
excellent playing conditions, environmental stewardship, and a high-quality member experience. Reports
to the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities - include but not limited to: Grounds, Equipment Maintenance & Agronomy • Maintain greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and practice areas.
• Execute mowing, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and cultural practices.
• Monitor daily course conditions and adjust maintenance programs as needed.
• Plan and implement aeration, topdressing, overseeding, and drainage improvements.
• Oversee irrigation system operation, repairs, and water management.
• Manage snow removal and winter grounds care, including plowing, shoveling, salting, and
equipment readiness.
• Coordinate equipment maintenance and maintain inventories.
• Ensure proper calibration and safe handling of all equipment and materials.
• Maintain pesticide application records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local
regulations.
• Implement environmental best practices for water, chemical, and resource management.
Staff Leadership • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise maintenance staff.
• Assign daily tasks and monitor productivity and performance.
• Promote safe work practices and maintain training documentation.
Budgeting & Planning • Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget.
• Track expenses, forecast needs, and maintain cost control.
Communication & Collaboration • Provide regular updates to the Board on course conditions, projects, and staffing.
• Coordinate with the Clubhouse Manager on tournaments, events, and course setup.
• Support club communication regarding maintenance schedules and course impacts.
Proven Golf course superintendent experience with excellent references • Valid Iowa Commercial/Noncommercial Pesticide Applicator Certification (or obtained within 30
days of hire).
• Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of cool-season turfgrass and golf course operations.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on uneven terrain for extended periods.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and golf/turf management software.
