OverviewQuail Creek Municipal Golf Course is the City of Fairhope's 18-hole championship course, offering an affordable and scenic golf experience just minutes from the shops, restaurants, and accommodations of downtown Fairhope. This beautifully maintained municipal course features a challenging layout with three lakes, more than 40 sand traps, and well-manicured greens, fairways, and tee boxes. Our electric golf carts are equipped for all weather conditions and include coolers, sand bottles, club covers, and split windshields for your comfort and convenience.
Golfers will also enjoy access to a large driving range, a practice putting green, a chipping green, and a practice bunker to sharpen their skills. The fully stocked pro shop offers top-brand gear and apparel, with special and custom orders available by request. Rental clubs and club repair services are also offered. After your round, relax at the Quail Creek Grill and Snack Bar, conveniently located next to the pro shop. The grill features a full liquor license, a variety of menu options, and a newly expanded outdoor patio area.
Quail Creek is open seven days a week. Please note that league play, tournaments, and other golf events may occasionally impact the availability of the course.
Essential Responsibilities Description Under the direction of the Mayor, the Director of Golf Operations is responsible for the overall management and supervision of the Quail Creek Golf Course. The employee assumes the role of the head golf professional providing professional services and expertise. The employee ensures all day-to-day operations are performed in an efficient and effective manner. The employee ensures quality service is provided to the public, while carrying out policies, objectives, functions, and programs which are performed in compliance with established City policies, procedures, and protocol. The employee provides supervision over staff involved in the shop's daily activities, the care and maintenance of the golf shop and equipment and the Snack Bar, and the routine maintenance of the grounds. The employee exercises considerable independence and judgment and makes decisions requiring technical discretion, and knowledge of City policies and golf industry standards. This job is considered security-sensitive and is subject to a pre-employment background check.The Quail Creek Golf Pro is allowed, in their sole discretion, to give lessons to patrons outside of their normal work schedule. Such lessons are not part of the employee's job duties for the City and are deemed to be an approved outside private business activity. Such activity may be subject to prior approval from the Mayor or City Council, and may require earnings to be reported to the City of Fairhope. Manages the daily functions of the department. Supervises and provides oversight of employees. Serves as the Department Head for the City's golf operations.Manages and oversees the daily operations and functions of the Department.Maintains collegial, productive, and professional relationships among employees, and with the City and colleagues.Prepares for, attends, and participates in meetings; attends and reports on club activities at City Council meetings on a regular basis.Collaborate with the Mayor, Council, and Human Resources (HR) Director, as necessary.Maintains files, documents, records, and reports as relates to golf functions, processes, budgeting, and purchases.Assembles documents and reports. Distributes assembled materials as appropriate.Participates in training and continuing education programs. Maintains current professional knowledge and required credentials and membership with PGA of America. Establishes, maintains, and updates processes and procedures for the department. Assigns and delegates work to Departmental employees and contracted employees.Ensures accuracy and timeliness of all work performed by Departmental employees.Considers and approves schedules and leave for all assigned employees.Ensures accuracy of timecards and time sheets for all assigned employees.Supervises individuals.Oversees and coordinates training programs for all assigned employees.Oversees, supports, and corrects work conducted by Departmental employees.Conveys information to Departmental employees regarding mission and operational priorities. Maintains communications with Departmental employees.Ensures employees have appropriate tools and resources necessary to perform their jobs.Works with the Human Resources (HR) Director in taking all personnel actions. Coordinates all searches, interviews, and hires through the HR Department.Interviews and selects prospective job applicants for vacant jobs; consults and coordinates with the HR Department and the Mayor.Participates in all matters associated with departmental personnel, such as employment, orientation and training, disciplinary actions, leave, and separation.Administers discipline as needed; follows designated City-approved personnel policies and procedures for disciplinary actions.Provides information to the City of Fairhope official website.Ensures confidentiality as determined and appropriate.Represents the department and City in a consistently professional and positive manner. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Golf Administration and Operations. Oversees membership, program planning, and tournaments to ensure a high-quality service is provided consistent with the policies and procedures established by the City. Recruits new seasonal pass holders.Greets patrons ensuring proper amounts are collected for greens fees, cart rental fees, lessons fees and merchandise sales.Recruits and coordinates golf tournaments to promote the game of golf in the City of Fairhope.Organizes and plans all golf tournaments. Confers with Golf Grounds staff r on course layout for special events and other pertinent circumstances affecting play of golf.Develops and implements policies and procedures as related to assigned staff. Establishes operating policies consistent with the City's broader policies and objectives, and to ensure their execution.Develops all programs for golf lessons of all ages; conducts golf lessons and instruction.Manages inventory, sales and operations of the pro shop and snack bar and grill.Maintains up-do-date software to assist with golf course and golf clubhouse operations, memberships, and retail operations.Consults with Mayor and Public Works Director to plan and review work projects. Oversees the daily operation of the Pro Shop, Snack Bar and driving range. Ensures state/federal health standards are met in Snack Bar and Grille.Oversees all events, parties, banquets, etc. to ensure successful conduction and operations.Maintains GHIN Handicapping System, and the collection of annual handicap fees.Maintains a positive working relationship with the Quail Creek Civic Association; provides informative information to the Monthly Quail Creek Newsletter; and attends Quail Creek Civic Association meetings as necessary.Sets Course opening and closing hours of operation throughout the year based on daylight savings and variable weather. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Financial. Develops and administers budgets, tracks expenditures, and performs benefit cost analysis to ensure fiscal responsibility and ensure golf operations are financially sound. Participates in the planning and budgeting of projects and departmental processes.Develops and implements financial budget as related to the Pro Shop and Snack Bar operations, driving range, and grounds maintenance.Ensures cash and sales receipts are balanced at the end of the day, daily deposit prepared.Completes various financial forms, reports, correspondences, and documents in accordance with established procedures. Oversees all purchasing; ensures adherence to all guidelines, policies and procedures.Ensures the timely and accurate receipt of all purchases.Ensures inventory is current, stock, and properly maintained in accordance with all established guidelines, policies, and procedures.Consults with Mayor and City Council on determining all rates and fees for Quail Creek Golf Course and Quail Creek Snack Bar for each fiscal year.Recommends rates and fees, golf specials and discounts, tournament fees, and clubhouse rental fees.Tracks expenditures to ensure departmental projects and purchases remain within approved budget. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Golf Course and Play. Oversees the daily care and layout of the golf course, maintains credentials, and performs outreach and marketing to ensure the success of the golf course. Oversees the driving range, soliciting questions and providing practice and playing advice where appropriate.Coordinates cooperatively with the Golf Grounds Superintendent on course layout and design, playing conditions, tournament and event schedules, and other aspects of the Quail Creek operations which have an impact on the pleasure our customers receive from playing golf at Quail Creek.Attends professional association (PGA or LPGA, as appropriate) meetings and educational seminars to maintain professional management expertise standing. Maintains a personal playing proficiency by participating in selected competitive events, local tournaments and with Quail Creek patrons.Contacts and cooperates with state and local tourism and chamber of commerce officials to promote Quail Creek to their contactsPlans and participates in junior golf activities, clinics, and other related activities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Supervision of Turf Management. Provides support to the Golf Grounds Manager in the treatment and management of the greens. Directs the use of fungicides, pesticides, and insecticides for control of disease and insects that are harmful to grass and other plants.Reviews and develops plans of greens, tees, and fairways.Supports in estimating and requisition materials, supplies, and equipment needed in the maintenance and operation of the golf course and related facilities.Develops policies and procedures, rules, and regulations for the operation of the golf course.Inspects irrigation system to ensure optimal operation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Golf Grounds Maintenance. Oversee the maintenance of golf grounds to ensure the course is presentable to the public and is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of various equipment for the maintenance of greens according to the City's standards and policies and procedures. Ensures all scheduled and preventive maintenance associated with golf course is performed.Ensures fairways and all adjacent golf course property is properly maintained.Ensures preventive and light maintenance and repairs on equipment to include checking oil and fluids, changing belts, and sharpening and changing blades is performed efficiently and in a timely fashion.Responsible for scheduling and budgeting for the maintenance and repairs of the golf carts.Ensures maintenance such as picking up excess pine straw, pinecones, leaves, and weeds is performed in a timely fashion.Ensures trimming, cutting, and weed eating is effectively and efficiently performed for safety, function, and aesthetic purposes.Ensures cups and flags are in proper location and in fair condition.Ensures fairways, greens, and bunkers are maintained to include raking and picking up and removing debris.Ensures grass, trees, shrubs, or flowers are planted according to instructions and planned design of landscaped area.Ensures mulch and pine straw are applied to designated areas. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Building Maintenance. Oversees the maintenance of buildings on the golf course grounds to assist with the efficient and effective operations of the golf course facilities. Oversees preventative and light maintenance of facilities and buildings.Ensures buildings are cleaned and windows are washed utilizing brooms and other cleaning supplies.Ensures minor repairs of buildings and facilities are completed safely and in a timely manner.Ensures the golf course and facilities are free of debris and trash; assists and supports the Mechanic, when necessary.Collaborates with Public Works and the Electric Department to ensure safety and that all building maintenance and repairs are completed in a timely manner. NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum QualificationsPossess a bachelor's degree in business administration or marketing from an accredited college or university.Minimum of three (3) years of Head Golf Professional experience.Successful completion of the Golf Professional Training Program (GPTP).Certification as a Class A Professional by the PGA of America.Five (5) years of previous work experience teaching golf to a variety of age groups.Minimum of three (3) years of previous work experience in business management, sales, or marketing.Possess a current and valid driver's license; must be insurable.Ability to work non-standard work hours.Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
