Description
OverviewThe Golf Course Superintendent oversees the maintenance of the golf course and ensures that turf grass is repaired and maintained to established standards.
Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree, or equivalent from college or technical school; or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Degree preference in agronomy, horticulture, plant science, or soil science.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Pesticide Application License or ability to obtain within 90 days.
- Ability to read and speak English is required.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
Essential Responsibilities
- Maintain championship quality greens, tees, fairways, roughs and bunkers.
- Assist the Director of Agronomy in preparation and execution of the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans.
- Supervise and assist maintenance staff in daily duties.
- Supervise the cultural practices involved in growing various turf grass.
- Keep records of all chemical and fertilizer applications.
- Ensure maintenance equipment is properly maintained.
- Implement sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors when possible.
- Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed, including compliance with government regulations.
- Ensure proper training and/or licenses are obtained to perform job tasks safely and within regulations.
- Address all real or perceived environmental concerns.
- Ensure proper mixing, calibration, and application of all chemicals and fertilizers used on the course.
- Manage department members including Assistant Superintendent, 2nd Assistant Superintendent, Head Mechanic, Environmental Technician, Equipment Operator, Foreman, Greenskeeper, and Irrigation Technician.
- Ensure effective orientation and training for each new associate.
- Develop and conduct ongoing training programs.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Incorporate safe work practices in job performance.
