Description
Starr Whitehouse – an award-winning landscape architecture and urban planning practice based in New York, NY, with offices in Atlanta, GA and Hudson, NY – seeks motivated landscape designers with 2-4 years of experience for our New York office. Starr Whitehouse’s current projects address climate change, resiliency, park design, open space equity, urban design, streets and public spaces, green infrastructure and multifamily housing. We collaborate with internationally acclaimed architects and engineers and foster a creative, energetic atmosphere that is challenging to team members and attentive to quality of life.
We are looking for an entry-level landscape designer with 2-4 years of experience to work with teams throughout our three offices – contributing to the design and production of projects. Ideal candidates are talented designers with a passion for solving the biggest challenges in the field today, extreme attention to detail, sound judgment, and knowledge of ecological and sustainable principles of landscape architecture.
Qualifications:
Professional degree in Landscape Architecture preferred
2-4 years of professional experience
Ability to express design prompts verbally and graphically
Core Skills:
Passion for design
Strong desire to learn, engage with others, and build technical knowledge
Ability to clearly translate and elaborate on design ideas from others
Experience with all phases of design from schematic design through construction administration a plus
Ability to efficiently produce accurate and high-quality drawings with guidance
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English fluency)
Excellent organizational skills
Basic understanding of project budgets and their relationship to individual effort
Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, 3D modelling, Bluebeam Revu, visualization and creating presentations (Rhino, Lumion, Grasshopper, Adobe Creative Suite)
Additional Skills:
Experience with public agency / municipal submissions and approvals
Experience with project management, both client-facing and as an internal leader
Ability to craft project work plans, delegate design tasks, and ensure project progress is on time and within budget
Specialization in ecology, sustainability, or experience with waterfront or wetland environments
Experience with ArcPro / ArcGIS
Driver’s license a plus
This is a full-time, in-office position, with an option for some remote working days. Estimated salary range is $77,000 to $87,000 based on ability and relevant work experience. Offered benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), commuter benefits, and paid holidays.
