Description

The Village of Mokena is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Water & Wastewater Plant Operator within the Utilities Department. This is a technical position involving the operation and maintenance of the Village’s wastewater treatment facility, water distribution system, lift stations, pumping facilities, and associated equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor wastewater treatment equipment and processes to ensure proper facility operation.
• Read and record meters, gauges, pump readings, chemical usage, and other operational data.
• Adjust wastewater treatment processes as directed.
• Assist with preventative and corrective maintenance of pumps, valves, blowers, motors, and related equipment.
• Collect wastewater and effluent samples and perform laboratory testing and calculations.
• Use laboratory data to assist in evaluating treatment process conditions.
• Inspect sanitary lift stations and record pump operating information.
• Lubricate and perform preventative maintenance on pumping equipment.
• Monitor water pumping equipment and water distribution system operations.
• Inspect water and sanitary sewer connections.
• Repair water main breaks and assist with water distribution system maintenance.
• Flush hydrants and clean sanitary sewers.
• Maintain operating logs, records, and facility documentation.
• Perform general maintenance of wastewater treatment and water facilities.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Basic knowledge of wastewater treatment principles and practices.
• Some knowledge of mechanical equipment and machinery used in wastewater treatment and water operations.
• IEPA Public Water Supply Class “C” certification and/or IEPA Wastewater Treatment Works Operator Class “4” certification.
• Valid Illinois Class B Commercial Driver’s License with the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License within 180 days of employment.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work in indoor and outdoor environments.
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

Salary & Benefits:

• Starting annual salary is $80,277.71 with structured step increases and annual cost of living adjustments.
