The Village of Wilmette is seeking to fill a full-time position for Water Plant Operator in the Department of Water
Management. The Water Plant operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is anticipated this position to start as a fulltime
Operator with scheduled rotating shifts. The employee in this position works under the direction of the Assistant
Director/Maintenance Supervisor
General Responsibilities:
The employee in this position is responsible for a variety of manual and automated tasks in the maintenance and operation of
the Village’s water supply system to include simple record keeping, performing basic water analysis, operating filtration,
purification, and pumping equipment and tools. Specifically, this position will operate and carefully monitor the water treatment
equipment, the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, and adjust the controls of valves, pump motors,
chlorinators, filters, chemical feeders and clarifiers as necessary. The motors are gas or diesel driven with electrically
operated pumps. This position is responsible for removing, installing and performing repairs to water plant mechanical,
electrical and plumbing equipment. Additional responsibilities include working a rotating shift schedule, and participation in
the On-Call Specialist program will be required if selected; to include performing any other related duties as directed.
Position Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of three years of experience in the
operation and maintenance of power or pumping station equipment or an equivalent combination of training and experience
in general maintenance is strongly desired. The candidate must have knowledge of the operation of boilers, switches, circuit
breakers, motors and pumps. Computer, plumbing, mechanical and electrical experience is strongly desired. The candidate
must be able to lift to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis. The successful candidate must have
a Class “A” State of Illinois Water Supply Operator’s license or must obtain the license within two years of employment. The
candidate must be able to work alone for extended periods of 8 hours or more.
Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for a candidate who already possesses a Class “A” license is $87,253 to $115,781 with a starting salary
of $87,253. The salary range for a candidate who does not possess a Class “A” license is $77,653 to $103,042 with a
starting salary between of $77,653. Benefits include participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), medical,

Selection Process:
The successful candidate must be prepared to undergo a pre-employment physical examination that includes a back
evaluation, drug and alcohol screening, audio and vision tests, psychological evaluation, background investigation, and a
driver’s license records check with the Secretary of State’s Office.
